A Stage In Woman’s Life Called Menopause
When a woman is in her puberty stage (childbearing years), her ovaries use to produce an hormone called “oestrogen” (or estrogen). They also release an egg every month, a phenomenon which is called “ovulation“.
The aim of oestrogen production is to instruct the uterus to build up a lining in order to allow the implant (and growth) of a fertilized egg. If the egg hasn’t been fertillized after some time, the lining is released and the women has her period (menstruation).
When Menopause Occurs
Between the age of 40-50 (for normal healthy women), a woman progressively stops having her menstrual period: this is due to the fact that oestrogen production reduces drastically and that ovaries stops producing eggs anymore.
When a woman has not experienced any menstrual period for a year, it is considered as a condition which is called menopause.
When these ‘signs of menopause‘ happen, they mark the end of a woman reproductive years and of her fertility either.
It can take five years for a woman to achieve the final menopause stage.
The Symptoms
Even if menopause is a biological and natural process (in fact, it is a transition), most woment (75% of them) may experience troublesome symptoms such as:
- behavior and emotional changes,
- frequent fatigue,
- vaginal dryness,
- sometimes leakage of urine and even frequent infections.
These changes are a direct result of hormonal fluctuations in her body during menopause.
