If you’ve been looking at going into investment banking, you might be wondering what it’s like to work at an investment banking firm, and what kind of salaries you can really earn in investment banking these days.

Well, it’s no picnic – investment banking is renowned to be an industry of long days, working weekends, and lots of stress. Many people work there for just 2-5 years in preparation for getting an MBA. It’s a great exposure to the business marketplace and a good resume builder.

I had an investment banking internship when I was in college. I was a real go-getter, but I did not like the working environment and career prospects for a woman on Wall Street.

I chose to go into commercial real estate investing instead, and that is something I really enjoy. If you love stock investing, and the negotiating and competition that is rampant in investment banking, maybe you should still consider giving it a try. The investment banking salaries can make it very appealing as a first job out of college!
