Hard Hitting Newsroom Turned Into Luxury Lofts
In 1876, the Chicago Daily News printed its first newspapers. In the 102 years that followed, it was a pinnacle of hard hitting, quality journalism that brought truth to power and spread information over the streets of all of Chicago. At the end of these 102 years, the Chicago Daily News drew its last breath and released is last paper. March 4, 1978 marked the end of this news juggernauts long, historic life. For the past 29 years, the building which once housed the newsroom where hardworking journalists and editors turned out the days news has stood dormant in urban Chicago.
Recently, it was bought up by Smithfield Properties, loft developers who have taken this piece of history and converted it into a modern living paradise. Called Daily News Townhomes and Lofts, this new community creates a set of lofts that mimic lofts elsewhere but at the same time are firmly attached to the history of their host building. Smithfield Properties has tried to make the experience of living in Daily News Townhomes and Lofts a unique one, bu putting extra thought into the conversion of the old news building. Different techniques and inventions have been used to make the lofts and townhomes easier to maintain, with better, more private sound carrying, and a beautiful and individual interior design.
