Toys for Special Needs Children
As parents search online for special needs toys for their children this time of year, I am sure that they will be surprised at the range of toys that are now available. The type of toys that are required for kids with special needs is a lot different than the commercial mainstream games and puzzles that are out. One thing that they do have in common is that all toys should be fun and the kids with needs should feel a sense of accomplishment when playing and not be frustrated of what they are not able to do something.
Play that involves using the senses will help with their development. What I have found are the magnetic type toys are a big hit with kids of various ages and they are available in many different and varied magnetic jig saw puzzles. These are great as you will be able to start with very basic jig saws which have bigger pieces for the child that only has the use of one hand; there are also a large range of magnetic construction toys and magnetic marbles.
There are also simple balls that are great for developing hand eye coordination, there are balls that glow in the dark play music when you go to roll it or there are Velcro types of catching mitts that would allow the child to catch the ball.
Building blocks are also useful as they are big and chunky they will allow the parent to sit and teach the child how to play and build.
