One of the most difficult things to obtain with bad credit is a place to live. Most landlords and rental agencies do a credit check before letting you rent the apartment or house. When you have bad credit you might have to find someone that passes on the credit check and those that do that are usually unprofessional parties to begin with.
It can also be difficult to get a job, as many employers do extensive checks on their potential employees. In other words, having a bad credit score is…bad!
How to fix your credit should therefore be the first question you ask your self. Most people have the means to make great progress fixing credit, but it doesn’t come with out certain sacrifices.
The first thing you should do is get a hold of your credit report. Everyone can get a free report once per year, either online or through a credit agency. Go through the report and check that all the debt actually is yours and that it is accurate.
Start phoning your creditors and ask for a lower APR on your debt. Tell them that this is part of a total overhaul, and change in your lifestyle, to better you credit score and goal of paying your bills to them on time.
You also need to cut down on all the expenses that are not 100% necessary. If you are accustomed to daily coffee shop visits, try cutting down to once per week, drink coffee at home, and pay down debts with the saved money. This is just one example of the many things we spend money on that isn’t a required expense of living.
