You’ve heard the phrase, but what exactly does parenting with love mean? There are opposing views. Some parents feel that parenting with love means that to discipline a child is wrong. On the other hand, other parents argue that discipline is necessary in order to be a loving parent. Another concern is whether too much love and attention will spoil a child. Where do you stand?

Your viewpoint is probably colored by the way you were raised. If you feel that your parents were too strict and/or harsh, you may tend to be more patient and nurturing. The way you discipline your child will likely be more in the line of reasoning with them, using time-outs, and not using any kind of physical punishment.

However, if your parents were lenient and free-spirited, you may feel that raising your children with more boundaries and responsibility is the way to go. Most parents do not want to spoil their children intentionally. Some say that you can’t give a child too much love and attention. However, other parents are concerned that too much attention will cause their children to be needy and to not take responsibility when they are adults.

Parenting is a huge responsibility but is also a privilege. It is up to you to decide how to raise your children. Parenting with love means different things to different people. At least we can all agree that showing love to our children is the most important thing.
