Affirmations Can Be A Powerful Substitute For Alcohol
Many believe that alcohol abuse can be overcome with some outside entity pointing the abuser in the right direction, but even with that approach, it is up to the abuser to stop. There are alternatives to drinking alcohol and they are easily achievable with patience, daily positive affirmations, and some imagination.
One way to learn how to stop drinking alcohol without going to a 12 step program like Alcoholics Anonymous is to have someone record the abuser and have some way to play the media back to the person each morning. During that morning, the abuser could recite a positive affirmation such as “I refuse to let alcohol take over my life” and repeat it throughout the day. If the abuser feels themself slipping, then drinking a non-alcoholic beverage of greater content than the alcoholic beverage will help create a balance to keep the person at a sober level. Overtime, the abuser should start limiting the alcohol intake more while upping the other beverage amount. It doesn’t hurt to pretend that the non-alcoholic beverage is one’s alcoholic drink of choice.
One may also want to incorporate a healthier diet and some exercise if that is not already a part of their lifestyle. Walking or jogging for 30 minutes before the start of one’s day and making sure to eat meals that include fruits and veggies can help battle the toxins that most alcoholic beverages put into the human body. One thing to remember is that it will take time to stop the alcohol abuse and not to get frustrated. Many have been in this situation and realize that all of the key elements above will help them find a substitute for alcohol.
Eventually, with all of these methods in place, abuse will deter and the person may feel empowered to make other improvements with their life. They will be able to discover themselves, change, and rebuild the friendshiips that they may have lost due to alcohol abuse. But again, it will take patience, some repetitive positive affirmations, and the use of one’s imagination to succeed in overcoming alcohol abuse.
