When searching for a job it is important that you have a resume that is up to date and that can help you get a foot in the door at the employer. It is also imperative that your resume is easy to read, with a nice structure. Simple mistakes are common, and I have listed a few below (with suggestions):

- Bad grammar: use a spell checker, and have some one proof read for bad sentences
- Resume does not stand out: Sell your skills, knowledge and experience, don’t be shy
- Blatantly lying: Do not lie, as it is dishonest and can often be cross checked by employer
- Showing up in inappropriate clothing: Wear something nice and in style with the job.

Making a great impression and standing out is crucial in the competitive market you face today. If you are a student looking for a full-time or part-time job, invest time in how you look, are perceived, and in your resume. Remember, you only one chance to give a first impression!
