The Migration to VoIP calling

Communication is important to everyone and especially to businesses. The need for a cheap and easy form of communication has brought about the integration of fax, email and recently use of VoIP calls. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) works just like your normal landline. VoIP uses the internet to transmit voice, data and video traffic. Thus, VoIP calls have brought about a new revolution in cheap communication methods over long distances and in some cases, these calls can be made at absolutely no cost. As you can see, this form of communication is not only ideal for businesses, but for anyone looking for alternatives to a cheaper mode of communication.

However, VoIP calls offer more than just a cheap means of communication. With VoIP, you can conduct meetings and presentations with a number of people or even close deals with customers much faster than before. In addition, via a webcam or a videophone, you get to see who you are talking to. VoIP calls can also be made and received anywhere on the planet as long as there is an internet connection. This allows for important business opportunities and emergencies to take place despite long distances. In almost all ways, VoIP calls prove to be superior to traditional phone calls.

Effective VoIP calls require that your internet connection be both stable and fast. When one of these is missing, any calls made via the internet will have delays or will result in dropped calls. This is an important consideration, especially when you are trying to make a sale. While a one-second delay may not seem like much, it can make a difference as to whether you get a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ from the other party when it comes to a business transaction.

One of the best VoIP calls services is the one that is relayed over the 3G data network. This type of connection requires no PC, no WiFi connection or any additional kit. Some mobile operators have also integrated a VoIP element to their services that allows them to offer cheaper calling rates in addition to introducing new revenue streams. All in all, VoIP calling is transforming the global communications matrix by creating a single converged network that carries both voice and data on the same protocol. Many companies are rushing to migrate and many more are helping make the move. VoIP calls will continue to get cheaper and better. Have you made the move yet?

Making Phone Calls over Internet Connections

With the advent of VOIP (Voice Over Internet Providers), you can now make phone calls over internet connections that sound just as good as if you were using your regular house phone and often even better. Due to the proliferation of fiber optic cables, satellite service and digital broadband access to high-speed internet service around the world, it is now possible to make quality phone calls over internet services such as Skype, Vonage, or several others that are just now entering the marketplace.

Using Skype is simple and you need to first download the software from their web page at www.skype.com. Once you have downloaded the software on your computer you just need to purchase a USB headset. You can get one of these pretty cheap at Radio Shack or Best Buy. One of the most reliable brands is Plantronics, but just about any of the $20 to $40 models serve just as well. Most have two foam padded speakers for listening that cover the ears and a band that goes over your head, along with a microphone that sticks out and is adjustable for talking into. Make sure that the wire that connects to your USB input on your computer has a mute switch on it. Once you have these items you are ready to make calls.

Calls from one Skype user to another Skype user are free of charge, no matter where the two users are in the world. You can be calling from Costa Rica to Sweden and as long as both users are using their Skype software, then the call is free and they can talk as long as they want with no charges. If you are using Skype to call a phone number that is not a Skype number, for example if you are using Skype to call a friend’s cell phone in another country, that is alright also, but will cost you a bit. In order to do this you will need to go to the Skype website and purchase what are called “Skype Out Credits”. You can buy these in increments of $10 or $25 and then you can call anyone in the world. Rates to each country are shown when you attempt to place a call. Calls to a Nicaragua cell phone, for instance, cost 22 cents per minute and less for a house phone. This is a really low rate compared to buying a prepaid calling card, which normally run for $5 and give you only 20 minutes of talking time and are very unreliable as far as getting connected.

Call quality on Skype is usually excellent and really makes it easy to make phone calls over internet connections that are high speed. Skype does not really work on low speed connections such as dial-up. You really need to have some bandwidth and high speed cable, DSL, or satellite service in order to have a reasonable sounding call. After every call you make, Skype will ask you to rate the service by filling out a small survey which appears as an annoying pop-up window.

Skype and Vonage both work the same basic way and you can easily make phone calls over internet services with both of these great systems.

Understanding The Wireless Network Revolution

When accessing the computer network that is wireless is commonly known as a wireless network. These networks, which are often associated with a telecommunications network, use a form of remote information transmission such as by radio waves.

Amongst the smallest of wireless networks is a Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). This network is usually just in a small area within a single person’s reach.

The next level of wireless network is the more common Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) which are mostly used to connect computers within a home, school or office. In order for these networks to be used only by those entitled to it, the network must be encrypted. Wi-Fi is a wireless network that allows for connection to the Internet and other devices with Wi-Fi abilities. Fixed Wireless Data links computers or networks at two different locations, such as in two or more buildings in the city.

Upgrade Your Audio Visual Systems for a Better Business Operations

Video conferencing has come a lengthy way from the initial introduction into the corporate world. The employment of video conferencing discussions is utilized these days more than ever due to numerous reasons including today’s economy. You can put aside a lot of money on air fare by conferencing employees into meetings instead in its place of flying them to a particular location. Therefore, this is where video conferencing comes in handy for your company.

Video conferencing has other benefits as well, including saving on cell phone charges. If you have an office where you have one or more than one telephone lines, then it is difficult when you must tie a line up.

If you have presentation materials that you want the satellite office to see, then you also have the capability of viewing the materials on a quarter of the screen. The viewer can also see another satellite office in a quarter quarter of the screen monitor and the corporate company office in the other extra half of the screen panel where the majority of the people are. You can divide this up to your liking as well by viewing quarters of the screen. This will assist by saving paper too, as the viewer spectator can see the presentation production on screen panel instead of printing or producing it with the use of video conferencing systems.

A lot of organizations have turned to this method method of connecting their sites as it has established itself again and again to be a price effective and more personal than a cell phone conference. It also provides a personal touch, which is most likely as close as you can get without actually getting on a aircraft and going to the gathering. Another great facet is panning. In any case, as you can see, the possibilities are infinite, as you can employ your audio visual install and video conferencing systems to be at the cutting edge of the technology. This way, you will be able to link your office and its branches, so that you will be able to handle your operations with ease. So, you should take care of your video conferencing needs as soon as possible for a more productive company.

It’s frustrating to know the phone number of the person but not the name. However, you can take action yourself and make the calls stop happening.  Whether it’s an unlisted home phone number or a cell phone number, it is possible to find out the identity of the caller without having the police trace the telephone calls. The Many Perks of Voice Over IP Services

It is fairly understandable for anyone to be skeptical about abandoning traditional phone services in favor of services that use your existing broadband internet connection to help you make (and receive) phone calls, but there are a lot of benefits to voice over ip services. For instance, you will almost surely save money, because you will not have to pay extra for a “land line” when you will be using your internet connection to make and receive calls. Also, with voice over IP there is usually no charge for “long distance” calls. Finally, many of the same perks you relied on with traditional phone service, such as call waiting or voice mail, are available with this type of setup.

Is a T-1 cost effective?

A T-1 is the most cost effective method of voice t1 circuits available. Because of its flexibility an entire office can share one T-1. Typically you will need one T-1 voice line for every 50 to 100 users, based on average usage. The T-1 voice circuit can be configured to take your main incoming telephone number.

This is helpful because many lines are then able to back up the main number so that there is never a busy signal. Additionally, DID service can be used to provide direct inward dial numbers to employees. These phone numbers act like private lines and can be dialed directly from the outside, bypassing the need for an operator to direct the call.

T1 voice service can be used for both incoming and outgoing calls. You can port your main business telephone number to the T1. This helps by providing many lines to accept incoming calls. T1 voice service can also accommodate direct inward dial (DID) numbers. These are typically available in banks of 10 and can be assigned to individual phones to be used like a private line. The DID numbers bypass the telephone switchboard and ring directly on the individually assigned phones.

How Does VoIP Work?

With the increased adoption of high-speed Internet across the U.S. and abroad, it has become much easier to send and receive large amounts of data without affecting bandwidth. What this means for consumers is that they can now download huge files quickly, browse multiple web pages simultaneously, and even make telephone calls over the Internet; an emerging technology known as VoIP. VoIP stands for “Voice over Internet Protocol” and it is quite simply a way of using the Internet to make and receive telephone calls.

Find Programs That Offer Free Voip

The programs that still offer free VoIP would be Skype and Ad Calls. These programs will allow you to call using free VoIP programming. Ad Calls will allow you to call a telephone for free.

While many people are opting to go with VoIP, it still has some disadvantages. The main one is that it is hard to use 911 with VoIP. This is because the call is made from your computer network and not a landline phone. 911 will not be able to trace the phone call made from your VoIP phone and retrieve your address. Also, when you place your 911 calls, the dispatcher will not receive any of your location information. The FCC has issued rulings pertaining to this. Some options include registering with 911, when you call 911 giving them your information and location right away, or keeping a landline phone or cell phone available for use in case of an emergency. The latter may be the best solution for enjoying the best of both worlds.

Increase Productivity While Traveling

I travel frequently for business, but I often find that my productivity decreases while I’m on the road. Part of that may have to do with missing my family, but it’s also partly because I don’t have full access to my business phone features when I’m on the road. I can only get so much done with my Blackberry. Then I discovered softphone. My company uses VoIP and I was told that I can access all of my business phone’s features using the softphone software on my laptop. I can return client calls right from the laptop using a headset and my hotel room’s high-speed connection. I’m amazed by how much more work I get done.

Fortunately, I found an article that explains that VoIP internet phone service works just like my regular phone, except that the calls from through my DSL line instead of the creaky phone line. I can even use the phone I already have. Now that I’ve got all the answers, I’m ready to make the switch. I can’t wait to call my friend in France and tell him the call is free!

Skype Thinks Clear Under Fire

August 16th was a tough day for Skype. The popular internet phone service was down for more than a day. However, Skype can be applauded for doing one crucial thing right: Not committing the “second mistake.” The second mistake occurs when you do not follow-up with your customers after a problem. In some cases, the second mistake causes a company to have former-customers. Here is a snippet from the email sent out:

“As a goodwill gesture to all you faithful Skype Pro, Skype Unlimited, SkypeIn, or Skype Voicemail customers, we’re adding an additional seven days to your current subscription free of charge,” the e-mail said. “And even if you didn’t miss out on using Skype last week, you can still have a week free on Skype, on the house.”

Broadband phone service allows you to have phone service over the internet instead of using traditional phone lines. Broadband phone service is also known as VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol. Broadband phones are also called internet phones. This technology takes your voice and converts it into a digital signal that is transmitted over the internet. Before the signal reaches the person you are calling, the digital signal is converted back into an analog signal that is heard on the receiving phone. Once setup, a broadband phone works just like a normal phone. In fact, if you convert to a broadband phone, you can use all your existing phones in the house. Normal phones and normal phone jacks work with broadband phone service.

VOIP Services – Should You Use it?

Here are the top 3 concerns my research has shown people have about using VOIP services.

1.  Quality and Clarity of the call.  Is the call going to produce as good of quality as a cell phone or will there be a lot of static?  If I make an International call will I be able to clearly hear the conversation.

2.  How reliable is VOIP.  Will the call be connected throughout the entire conversation or will I lose the connection.  My cell phone drops calls all of the time, how can this be more reliable?  What happens if the power goes out, will I still be able to make a call?

3. What is the cost?  Is this cheaper than using a land line and/or a cell phone?  Are different plans available?  Is there a consumer and business plan?

I think you will be surprised about the answers.

A Brief History of VoIP

It all started back in the very early days of the internet – some time in the mid 1990s – when researchers and computer enthusiasts took a serious interest in sending voice data over an internet connection. Software was developed that enabled the transmission of voice data from one computer to another. In order to communicate with another computer user, a modem, sound card, speakers, and a microphone were required.

The sound quality was very poor, and nowhere near the quality of a standard telephone connection. Also, these voice connections could only occur between computers which had the same communication software installed. This technology is commonly referred to today as VoIP.

Pros & Cons Of VoIP

Pros & Cons Of VoIP

Advantages

Low Cost Rates

The major advantage of the VoIP technology is its ability to offer call rates at a very low cost. With a broadband Internet connection (DSL or Cable) and a VoIP-enabled software, one can make phone calls from his computer to another computer in any part of the world for free. Making calls from a computer to a regular phone line is also possible for a minimal fee. This fee, compared to the rates charged by regular telephone companies, is still relatively low.

Portability

VoIP service is also portable. You can make and receive phone calls anywhere as long as you have a broadband connection and simply logging in to your account. This is similar to having an email-you just have to bring along your headset or Internet phone, when you are traveling and you can talk to anyone in your business and families without for close to nothing.

Disadvantages

With all the great benefits that come with this service, there are also disadvantages to it just like any other technology. Power outage and emergency calls are two major issues that VoIP service has.

Power Outrage

A regular telephone line has the ability to continuously run even during blackouts because it has its own source of power. Internet phones, however, do not have this feature. So when the power goes out, so does the VoIP service.

Sound Quality and Reliability.

The sound quality and reliability also pose a problem. The amount of data loss depends on the distance and the speed of the internet connection. This is not an problem for emails and documents because the descrambled data can be reassembled in the right order upon arriving at its destination.
