Having been practiced for thousands of years as a way of life and religion, meditation is now practiced as a method to reduce stress and anxiety levels. There are several steps as well as postures when practicing meditation:-
1. Cross legged posture or lotus position. Many spiritual traditions and meditation teachers practice and teach various meditation physical postures. One of the most popular postures is the cross legged position also referred to as the lotus position. The spine must be kept straight; this is to encourage good circulation of spiritual energy allowing it to be channeled through the body.
2. Seated posture. A practitioner can sit on the chair or on the stool. They should sit upright keeping the back straight and hold the spine and head in alignment and the thighs should be parallel to the floor. The hands may be placed on the arms of the chair, the thighs or on the knees.
3. Kneeling posture. The practitioner should be knelt with both knees on the floor keeping the buttocks resting on the toes and heels which are almost touching. The hands can be rested on the thighs.
4. Lying down posture or savasna in yoga. This posture simulates the natural sleeping posture and the practitioner may well fall asleep as opposed to meditate.
5. Mudras or hand gestures. Based on Yogic philosophy, mudras or hand gestures can affect ones consciousness and also help create energy. Mudras are created using the fingers, thumb and palm of hand and are known to improve different areas of ones life.

3. Let Go of Judgment
From the time we’re born, our minds are filled with the lessons taught to us by our parents, siblings, friends, teachers, teachers, and all of society. We learn how to fit in, how to behave, how to articulate, what is expected of us, even how to think. We learn to judge right from wrong, and we learn how to judge every activity, situation, and person (as well as judging ourselves). Yet is that wholesome? Kind? Moral? Even if it does appear legal and fits into the norms of society, will such an attitude and outlook of judging really get you ahead? Sure, sometimes it is good to conform; yet other times, it is good to question standards that have been set by others, so you can think for yourself, and choose to let go of judgment. 4. Believe–In Yourself, In Your Dreams
If you don’t believe in yourself, then no one else will believe in you either. Believe in your right to achieve your dreams, and that in itself will increase the chance of them coming true. In fact, without that, it might be impossible for them to come true. Usually life doesn’t hand you what your heart desire, and neither do people. People are geared toward molding others, including yourself, to fit their lifestyle and desires. Although people often do this unconsciously, and unintentionally, it is much easier to resist the subtle manipulations of other if you know what you need and want. You will then be more likely to ask for it, work toward it, and be internally driven, so that those in your sphere, or path, will more likely be accommodating…or at least less likely to hinder you in your attempts to reach your goals and dreams. So don’t be afraid to believe that you are extraordinary, and that you deserve to realize your dreams. It’s vital that you believe in order for it to come true.
5. Don’t Ever Give up
Don’t focus on how you fell down 14 times…celebrate that you got back up for the 15th time. Many inventions and great success stories are the result of people who suffered many failures, but never gave up. For instance, Thomas Edison failed thousands of times before he perfected the electric lamp. The average person would have quit after just one or two failures. I guess that’s why there is are so many average people in the world, and only one Edison. Yet there are many marvelous inventors just like Edison, and you have the power and potential to be successful at reaching your goals, whether you’d like to invent something useful, be a famous writer, climb that elusive mountain, or raise a healthy family (a feat in itself!)…all are hard tasks that cannot be accomplished if you give up. So focus on your successes, because even picking yourself back up after a fall is a success. You won’t finish a race if you give up in the middle of it…so don’t give up! Ever.
