Smart shopping counts for a lot, but it is especially important when you are looking for affordable digital cameras. Affordable electronics in general follow pretty much the same trend. The new stuff is always really expensive, but once you wait six months or so, it comes down in price. This is definitely the case with affordable digital cameras. When I bought my first electronic camera, it cost a fortune. I don’t remember exactly what the resolution was, but it was much lower than the typical camera resolution now. Back then, however, it was cutting edge. It didn’t take as good a picture as any phone camera will nowadays, yet it cost as much as top of the line professional cameras.
Nowadays, if you are a smart shopper, you can find an affordable digital camera well within your price range. A lot of people start by looking for used cameras. Used affordable digital cameras are a good idea if you know a few things about cameras. You need to be able to check them out to make sure the lenses aren’t scratched, the mechanics work well, and everything is in order. Then again, if you don’t know what you’re doing, buying a used camera can get you into trouble. Getting a really expensive camera for only a hundred dollars is not a deal if it turns out to be a lemon!
Even without buying used, you can find what you need for a good price. The key to buying affordable digital cameras is knowing the hype from the substance. Take resolution, for example. Having a high resolution digital image is a good thing, but it only has to be so high. If you only plan on taking standard photographs and do not plan on reprocessing them, blowing them up, or editing them in other ways, you can actually get a good image with a pretty low resolution. This will save you a bundle. You can also save money by giving up on the newest features. You don’t need sophisticated image detection software, zoom, and all that nonsense. If you want zoom, you can always go buy a zoom lens later.
